THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are conveniently located about 60 miles east of Puerto Rico. With consistent trade winds, clear aquamarine water, white sand beaches, sunshine every day and islands close enough to navigate by sight, a BVI charter makes for an unforgettable vacation. Whether you are a first time or experienced sailor – you will find incredible variety in this cruising area that is a sailor’s paradise.

A TYPICAL 7 DAYS SAILING ITINERARY FOR THE BVI

Your itinerary depends on many things - such as how aggressive you want to be, how much time you have, the desires of your party, and your taste and budget. Suffice it to say that no matter what you're looking for, it's hard to be disappointed in the BVI.

This 7 day itinerary starting and ending in Road Town will give you a bit of everything: sandy beaches, excellent snorkeling, beach party bars, upscale moorings at internationally famous hotels, places of interest, and of course beautiful sailing. It will certainly keep most people happy!

Day 1 - Road Town to the Bight, Norman Island
A perfect sail for your first half day, you can snorkel at the Indians on your way to Norman Island. When you arrive at the Bight, pick up a mooring ball and have dinner at the William Thornton, a great floating bar and restaurant that will definitely get you in the BVI mood after your long travels.

Day 2 - Norman Island to Cooper Island
Sail to the Caves and do some spectacular snorkeling and then check out the Wreck of the Rhone. Continue on to pick up a mooring buoy at Cooper Island

Day 3 - Cooper Island to North Sound, Virgin Gorda
The main attraction today is the huge rock formation called The Baths, on the Southwestern tip of Virgin Gorda. Moor here to explore the rocks, and then continue on to North Sound, and anchor at the Bitter End Yacht Club.

Day 4 - Virgin Gorda to Beef Island
Today is a leisurely sail, just head for The Dogs for some snorkeling, and then on to Trellis Bay on Beef Island and drinks/dinner at the Last Resort or De Loose Mongoose restaurant.

Day 5 - Beef Island to Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke
This is a long sail down wind to Jost Van Dyke, with a stay for lunch at a quintessential deserted tropical island - Sandy Cay. It's nice that you will have a relaxing day, because there's plenty to keep you awake until the wee hours with Foxys and Sidney's Peace and Love in the Little Harbor!

Day 6 - Jost Van Dyke to Peter's Island
Head south to Sopers Hole if you need provisions, and then on to Peters Island for some time on the beach. Stay at whichever place suits your taste.

Day 7 - Peter's Island to Rode Town, Tortola
Sadly, all that remains now is a sail up to Road Town.

HOW TO GET THERE

The British Virgin Islands are very accessible. Tortola is the largest island in the BVI chain and is very easily reached by air from San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, or by ferry from St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Sometimes you may find cheaper fares into St. Thomas.

With several flights daily, these airlines can get you to the BVI easily:
